Mattress Factory has issued an open call for artists in grades 8-12 living in the Pittsburgh area to be part of Mirrors of the mindwhich will open on May 13. Mattie Cannon, the museum’s artist engagement manager, says the show is “inspired by all the self-reflection and soul-searching that teenagers have done over the past couple of years.”
“The 15 teenage members of the Mattress Factory cooperative have decided to dedicate their time to creating a show to make the voices of other teenage artists heard!” Cannon said. She adds that the co-op will accept submissions of artwork in all mediums, sizes and styles from local teens, and will organize an exhibition of the artwork to be displayed in the lobby of the museum.
A Publish on Mattress Factory’s Instagram account states that all artwork will be accepted, including sculptural, two-dimensional, digital (if the museum has a way to display it), and textile-based.
He adds that submitted works must be “ready to hang” and that artists must have a means of transporting their work to and from the museum.
Artists who want to be considered for Mirrors of the mind must submit their works by Wednesday, April 20. The exhibition will then be presented from 13 to 19 May.
