Based in Connecticut, Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) is a national, nonprofit arts association dedicated to the elevation and promotion of art quilt, that is, designs sewn that work as visual art, not just the this ‘n’ that of grandma’s patchwork quilts (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
In 30 years, SAQA has more than 4,000 artists, curators, collectors and art professionals around the world.
In St. Pete, Fla., CraftArt, 501 Central Ave., opens an exhibit of work from the Florida region of the organization. Beginning Saturday, The artist’s question… answered in fiber consists of 29 art quilts. Artists were challenged to ask a question or tackle a problem and then answer the question through the creation of an original work.
The artist’s question will be at the Florida CraftArt gallery until May 14, after which it will travel to five other locations in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas until summer 2023.
